FIFA needed a visual identity for the first-ever World Cup Final Halftime Show, a live broadcast of unprecedented scale staged in front of 80,000 fans and over 1.5 billion viewers worldwide.
The FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show reached 80,000 fans live at MetLife Stadium and over 1.5 billion viewers worldwide, making it the most-watched live entertainment event ever and the first Halftime Show in FIFA World Cup history. The show included performances from Madonna, Shakira & Burna Boy, BTS, and Justin Bieber, as well as a Muppets and Sesame Street performance with the New York Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel. Coldplay closed the show with an original song performed alongside the PS22 Chorus.
Behind this was months of work. Collaborating alongside Executive Producer Guy Carrington of Done + Dusted, DE-YAN joined the project at its earliest stages to help shape its visual execution. What followed was a close creative partnership with director Hamish Hamilton and lighting designer Al Gurdon, working through how a performance of this scale could maintain a clear sense of humanity and creativity.
From early color and form studies to storyboards for Madonna's stadium entrance, bespoke visuals for every artist, and a fully CGI opening sequence, DE-YAN developed a cohesive visual language across the entire show. A handcrafted design approach was developed in support of the Global Citizen FIFA Education Fund, bringing warmth and intimacy to the campaign's ambition of raising $100 million for children's education worldwide. Months of development gave way to intensive on-site rehearsals at MetLife Stadium, ensuring every frame, transition, and cue was refined ahead of broadcast.
